Despite the efforts of MAPPA personnel to create a high-quality product, unfavorable sentiments of Attack on Titan's last season continue. Concerns have been raised over the amount of series that MAPPA has recently taken on, with some fearing that MAPPA would follow in the footsteps of studio Madhouse after Masao Maruyama departed to start studio M2. Attack on Titan has a reputation for being a tough show to develop. Meanwhile, in an interview translated by ANN, Attack on Titan's creators discuss how the series' tight timetable was a crucial reason in selecting MAPPA. Other studios wanted to take on the project but were unable to due to the tight timeframe. It's probable that a Season 4 of Attack on Titan would not have occurred thus quickly if MAPPA hadn't taken over.

Given that Eren's goal to eliminate the Titan via sterilizing the Eldians will be a key emphasis in the future, it seems logical that this picture reveals his persona rather than that questline. Eren has evolved a lot during the course of Attack on Titan, and the new look reflects that. Many of the events that occurred and the individuals he encountered had an impact on him and his tale.
