Note of Death Yagami Light is a 17-year-old Japanese prodigy who is fed up with his life, school, and the situation of the world as he understands it. On his way home from class one day, Light comes upon a black notebook with the words "Death Note" scrawled on the front. Light is intrigued by its look and reads the first few phrases, only to discover that everyone whose name is inscribed therein will perish. Light dismisses it as a joke and goes about his regular routines. Soon later, Light's human curiosity gets the better of him, and he tries the journal, learning the reality behind the first statement. Now that he has power, Yagami Light is on a mission to alter the world and become God of the New World. His route to holy status, however, will be difficult since another genius, known as L, is fighting against Light's ideas and Light himself. Who will be the first to use God's power over humans?
