Sorry, Dave.. I have to pounce.. the 258 is a terrific engine.. with some work.. if you can rebuild it.. or find one that has been rebuilt.. then slap on a holley.. with an intake.. and a decent valve cover.. I liked mine.. very easy.. and I simply adore K.I.S.S.
But they do need work if they aren't in good shape.. and anything is better than that 4.. ugh..but to be fair.. I would also put in a 4.0 with fuel injection before the 258.. but that all depends on what you have..is it difficult.. mmm.. kinda.. you will spend some money.. and even more time..items to consider..
1. new drive shafts. front will be too short, rear will be too long.
2. heat exchanger
3. brand-new bell housing
4. new engine mountsThese are a few of the major ones. Don't forget about exhaust work and connecting the engine to the wiring harness. Survival is instinctive, but living requires courage.
