The Office is founded on witnessing its actors go through brutally humiliating situations, and no character embodies the show's unpleasant roots more than Michael Scott. Throughout his seven seasons on the program, Michael demonstrates that he is unskilled, quick to rage, sort of stupid, and all around bad. He somehow embodies all of these terrible tendencies while also having a golden heart. However, in the most embarrassing Office episodes, Michael embraces his worst traits without ever attempting to rehabilitate himself. While amusing, these scenes do not provide viewers with a feeling of narrative atonement; instead, it seems that Michael is a nasty guy. Fortunately, Michael is portrayed by Steve Carell, who imbues the character with enough sweetness that you'll want to watch the show until you pass out - although you may pass out from wrath.
