The Mosasaurus was a predatory water lizard that lived in what is now western Europe and North America during the Mesozoic era of the Cretaceous period, around 70-66 million years ago. The first skull parts were discovered in 1764 in a chalk quarry in St Pietersberg, Netherlands, and a Mosasaurus skeleton was discovered in the same quarry in 2012. It is likely to be the earliest Mosasaurus skeleton ever discovered by palaeontologists. The beast appears as a tourist attraction in Jurassic World.
