But where did Mechagodzilla originate? Godzilla vs. Kong is a drastic departure from the character's roots in the 1970s. The character first debuted in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla in 1974. During originally appearing as Godzilla, it was revealed after a confrontation with the real Godzilla that the phony version was a massive robot operated by space aliens from Black Hole Planet 3. The aliens regarded Mechagodzilla as their ultimate weapon and means of ruling the Earth (it should be noted that at this point, âgiant monster fighting on behalf of invading aliensâ had become a plot hallmark of these Showa period Godzilla flicks). Godzilla is able to pull off Mechagodzilla's head and throw bits of his body into the ocean with the aid of another monster, King Caesar. VIDEO COLLIDER OF THE DAY
Mechagodzilla's back is supported by three rows of tiny, square-shaped dorsal plates with axe-like edges. There are brilliant red lights at each tip of its tail that flow downhill from its head to its back and then coalesce into a single row as they descend down its tail. Mechagodzilla's tail is lengthy and segmented, with a pair of miniature twin blades at the tip that can spin like a drill. It has a pair of tiny, blazing red eyes on its head that flash blue when it loses control. Prior to being possessed by Ghidorah's mind, its eyes flash a constant brilliant red hue, and after being possessed by Ghidorah's consciousness, its pupils vanish, leaving just pure red eyeballs. The mech's arms and hands are notably bigger and thicker in relation to the rest of its body, and armored plate is threaded into the panels on its arms and legs. Its claws resemble claw cranes, with little razor-sharp circular saws at the bottom of each finger and black absorbent pads on the tips. It features four-cell missile launchers hidden under its shoulder pads and two 16-cell missile launchers firing forward behind them.
Wingard became "engaged" in the world-building that underpins the Hollow Earth narrative.
[52] He also defined the dual narrative as a journey through time and an investigation of the past and future, noting how Madison, Josh, and Bernie discover technology that shouldn't exist while the others discover the Titans' and humanity's roots in the Hollow Earth. Wingard remarked on the parallels between Madison and Bernie, as well as how their quest provided a "Goonies-esque adventure," noting that it "was a great seasoning so we didn't get mired down in a single tone." Madison's journey, according to Rossio, was a "clear build" from the last picture, and it made sense for her to be aggressive and have insight into Godzilla's activities. Pearson compared Madison to Indiana Jones because of her daring personality, characterizing her as the team's "indisputable captain." Casting
