Giga Bowser has the same moveset as Bowser in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl, but some of his attacks have elemental effects; his down smash may freeze opponents, and his forward smash is explosive. Giga Bowser, unlike Bowser, does not have a swim animation; when he leaps into the water, he falls straight through it and is KO'd. Giga Bowser cannot pick up objects (except in Super Smash Bros. Melee), although he can still use the Bunny Hood and Superspicy Curry effects. Finally, because of his enormous size, Giga Bowser is immune to grab assaults, including Kirby's Inhale and Yoshi's Egg Lay techniques. Giga Bowser, on the other hand, is unaffected by Metal Boxes, since he does not develop a metallic look even when players do a Metal Special Smash. Similarly, Super Mushrooms, Poison Mushrooms, and Lightning have no effect on Giga Bowser's size, although he may change his size by performing a Giant or Tiny Special Smash.

He appears as a boss in Melee. To confront him, Adventure Mode must be completed in 18 minutes or fewer on Normal or above. He will emerge once Bowser has been beaten.
