Asta and Yuno were abandoned at the same church and have been inseparable ever since. They pledged as youngsters that they would contest to see who would become the next Emperor Magus. However, as they got older, certain distinctions between them became apparent. Yuno was a wizard with incredible strength and control, but Asta couldn't use magic at all and sought to compensate by training physically. When they were 15, Yuno received a beautiful book with a four-leaf clover (usually people get a three-leaf clover), whereas Asta received nothing. When Yuno was threatened and the truth about Asta's power was exposed, he was given a five-leaf clover Grimoire, a "black clover"! Now the two pals are out into the world, each pursuing the same objective!

When Yuno obtains a weird grimoire with a four-leaf clover instead of the typical three-leaf clover, and is soon in tremendous peril, Astaâs real power emerges. He obtains the anti-magic grimoire âBlack Clover.â The two friends and adversaries set off on their quest with the same aim in mind.

Production [Correction] Y«ki Tabata wrote and drew the Black Clover manga. He entered the manga business at the age of 20 and worked as an assistant for seven years until his science fiction one-shot Hungry Joker was published in the Shueisha magazine Weekly Shnen Jump for a short period of time. Tabata saw this manga as a failure, owing partly to its silent and dark-natured main character, who was diametrically opposed to the creator himself. Following its termination, his friends suggested him to create an energetic, upbeat heroine that like Tabata, and he started work on the fantasy-themed one-shot for Black Clover. [2] [3] [4] Following its release, he was appointed a new editor (Tatsuhiko Katayama), and Shueisha took up the series for full serialization. [2] [4]
