They had made a pact as youngsters that they would compete to see who would be the future Emperor Magus, and they've kept that promise. Nevertheless, as they got older, their distinctions became more obvious. Yuno was a master of magic, with incredible strength and control, but Asta was unable to utilize magic at all and relied on his physical training to compensate for his lack of ability. Yuno received a four-leaf clover when he obtained his Grimoire at the age of 15, whilst Asta received nothing when she received hers. As a result, Yuno obtained a five-leaf "black clover" Grimoire, which revealed Asta's true strength. They're now on their way to the unknown, with a common purpose in mind.
