The flag was altered once again in 1979. Gilbert Baker chose to divide the design in half, with an equal number of stripes surrounding each lamp post, in order to drape the streetlamps along the parade route with hundreds of rainbow banners. To get this appearance, he removed the turquoise stripe from the seven-stripe flag. As a consequence, the six-stripe form of the flag became the industry standard for future manufacture.
Jerri Ann Henry, the leader of the Log Cabin Republians group and a lesbian activist, told DailyMail.com on Friday that her organization has pressured the Trump White House to make a public show of support during Pride Month.
'Having any president acknowledge Pride is vital to my community.' It's huge for a Republican president to understand that,' she added over the phone. 'It's worth emphasizing that this hasn't occurred before, and it's not even close.'
LGBT Pride Month has started to obtain government recognition as gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights have gained exposure and advancement in recent years. On June 2, 2000, President Bill Clinton issued a proclamation declaring June to be Gay and Lesbian Pride Month. According to White House records, after President George W. Bush neglected to commemorate LGBT pride throughout his tenure, the Obama White House began issuing an annual proclamation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month in 2011. Despite the fact that Trump has yet to release an official proclamation, Politico reports that some government institutions, including the Pentagon, are organizing LGBT pride activities, as they did throughout Obama's two administrations. Nonetheless, the absence of presidential recognition has compelled these organizations to cease publishing any LGBT Pride-related documents or posters indefinitely.
